New Streaming Titles from Viz and Crunchyroll

July 7, 2010

I have updates on some new titles available for streaming from Viz and Crunchyroll.

Crunchyroll has announced plans to begin online subtitled streaming distribution of this month’s new Strike Witches 2 television series. They also have launched its simulcasting of the new “Occult Academy” (Seikimatsu Occult Gakuen) television series. For both shows, weekly episodes will be available to Crunchyroll subscribers one hour after Japanese broadcast, and available to all viewers one week later. The site will begin simulcasting this month’s new Tono to Issho television series today, shortly after the first episode airs in Japan.

Viz Media has begun streaming subtitled episodes of the current “Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan” (Nurarihyon no Mago) and the 2005 Strawberry 100% television series. Both shows are hosted by Hulu and are available on the Viz Anime site and Hulu homepage.

Anime News Network to Stream 1,000+ Anime Episodes

June 11, 2010

Got nothing to do this summer? If so, I sure wish I were you, because then I could watch anime all day long, thanks to Anime News Network. ANN has announced the launch of its new custom video player, as well as new content agreements and multiple new streaming anime series. The launch title for the player is Funimation’s motorcycle sci-fi action series Blassreiter, which is being streamed with episodes 1-4 dubbed and 1-24 subtitled.

ANN’s first license directly from Japan, Nobody’s Boy – Remi, will also launch on June 13, with five new episodes released every Sunday for 10 weeks. Due to an existing license in Canada, the series will only be available in the United States. However, TMS has announced that the English DVD rights, merchandising, and rights for Latin American distribution are still available, and can be obtained directly from TMS Entertainment, USA, Inc.

Also announced were ANN’s new content agreements with The Anime Network, Toei Animation, and Aniplex. The site will launch over 1,000 new episodes over the next several months. These include:

  • Galaxy Express 999
  • Captain Harlock
  • Slam Dunk
  • Pretty Cure
  • Digimon Adventure 02
  • Air Master
  • La Corda D’Oro
  • Miracle Train ~Ōedo-sen e Yōkoso~

Over 40 more titles, including The Anime Network’s back catalog and new ongoing series from Funimation, will be announced in the near future. ANN’s new video player is available to users for free without registration, and will now support DVD-quality video. The custom player will also eventually support multiple subtitle tracks.
